Why does PayPal say “You need to set up your account again”?

If you see the message “You need to set up your account again” directly next to PayPal in the payment methods overview in the ryd app, this message comes from PayPal itself. It means that PayPal is unable to establish a connection to your existing account.

Common causes on PayPal’s side:

  • Restricted or closed account: Your PayPal account has been temporarily restricted, placed under review, or deactivated by PayPal.
  • Account not fully set up: The email address you are using is only registered for guest purchases and is not linked to a fully set-up PayPal account.

What you can do:

  1. Try reconnecting your account: If necessary, remove PayPal and link it again using the correct email address and password.
  2. Contact PayPal Support: If your account is restricted or blocked, please contact PayPal directly. ryd does not have access to your PayPal security settings and cannot remove account restrictions.
  3. Choose an alternative payment method: Simply use another payment method in the ryd app, such as a credit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay, to complete your refueling as usual.

Is PayPal missing entirely from your payment options?

  • iOS: Please update your ryd app to the latest version in the App Store.
  • Android: Please wait for the next app update.
