PayPal – Why does my PIN only work on my phone?

Your ryd PIN for PayPal is not universally linked to your account, but is permanently tied to the specific smartphone on which it was set up. This prevents payments from being initiated from unknown devices, even if your login details are known.

One phone, one PIN

You may have wondered why you need to set up your PIN again when using a new phone, even though you are using the same ryd account.

The reason is a special security feature: device binding.

Not linked to the account

Unlike your password, which works across your ryd account everywhere, the PayPal PIN is firmly linked to your smartphone’s hardware (iOS or Android).

This means that the PIN you set up on your old phone simply does not exist on a new device (or a second device).

The advantage:
If someone logs into your account from an unknown device, they cannot make payments because the link to your specific smartphone is missing.

If you use ryd on multiple devices, you must set up the PayPal connection separately on each device.
