If you have stored gift cards in your profile, they will be used automatically when paying. The app always deducts discounts first, then the gift card amount, and finally your payment method. Multiple gift cards are used sequentially (max. 5); remaining balances are saved for future use. Important: At Pre-Pay pumps, you must authorize your payment beforehand to technically unlock the pump. Don't worry: We still calculate your gift card balance first before your payment method is actually charged.
Do you have one or more gift cards saved in your profile? Perfect. Here’s how they are automatically used when paying.
1. How your gift card is applied
Requirement: Your gift card must be activated. (How to redeem a gift card)
Your gift card is redeemed automatically.
Priority: The app always uses your gift cards first before charging your payment method.
Combinability: If you have multiple active gift cards, the app automatically uses as many as necessary to cover the invoice amount (note the limit: ⚠️ Important: The 5-code limit)

Remaining amounts & partial payment:
If the amount is not sufficient, the rest will be deducted from your authorized payment method.
If the amount is higher than the fuel bill, the rest remains active on the gift card for your next stop.
2. Combining with discount coupons
Yes, that works! The app always calculates your active discount first (e.g. 2 cents/liter). The reduced final amount is then paid from your gift card balance.
⚠️ Important: The 5-code limit
Please note that technically, a maximum of 5 codes per transaction can be redeemed simultaneously. This includes both your discount coupons and your gift cards.
A calculation example: You have activated a fuel discount and want to use additional gift cards.
1x Fuel discount (e.g. 2 ct/l)
+ 4x Gift cards
= 5 Codes (Limit reached)
If you have a 5th gift card stored in this case, it will not be considered for the current fueling process and remains available for the next time.
3. Important note: Authorization
When fueling with a gift card (especially at pre-pay stations), your current balance determines whether a pre-authorization of your regular payment method is required:
Sufficient Balance: If you fuel for an amount lower than or equal to your available gift card balance, you do not need to authorize a maximum amount via your regular payment method. The pump will be activated instantly.
Insufficient Balance: If you wish to fuel for an amount higher than your gift card balance, you will need to pre-authorize the fueling process using your regular payment method to cover the difference.
Payment Details: As soon as you place the nozzle back, ryd calculates the final amount. Your gift card balance is always used up first. Any remaining residual amount will then be automatically charged to your authorized payment method.
